2065. That is how long the Conservative majority on the Supreme Court is expected to last. Twenty-nine years from now. Children who have not yet been born will be young adults. The children you have today will be middle-aged.
Unless we do something — the Supreme Court appears ready to issue a dark slate of rulings in favor of: a national abortion ban, an extreme crackdown on immigrants and birthright citizenship, a repeal of LGBTQ rights, and more.
By 2065, our next opportunity to regain a liberal majority, the America we know today will no longer exist:
And if Trump places two or three more justices before his term ends, 2065 becomes a floor, not a ceiling. That should terrify you. It terrifies us.
Regaining the court conventionally is no longer feasible. The only path forward for Democrats is taking unprecedented action to break the conservative stranglehold over the Supreme Court.
This is why Defend Our Courts exists. Our plan is the only way forward for Democrats — and it works on two tracks simultaneously:
Track one: Win state Supreme Court races to build the firewall that protects voting rights, blocks gerrymandered maps, and holds the line at the level where elections are actually decided. We beat their machine in Pennsylvania. We beat it again in Wisconsin. We have more races to win in November and beyond.
Track two: Build the political will to unpack and reform the United States Supreme Court — which requires winning House majorities, Senate majorities, and the presidency, because we need all three to expand the court. It’s how FDR built the Supreme Court that upheld his New Deal. This is a multi-cycle fight, and it starts now.
Neither track is easy. Neither is cheap. Both are necessary. And we have already proven the model works. What we cannot do is run this program without you.
The children being born today will be adults in 2065. The America they grow up in — whether their voice matters, whether their vote counts, whether they have more rights or fewer — is being decided right now, in elections most people aren't paying attention to, by a court most people aren't watching.
