Who would’ve thought a kid from Middletown could one day make it to the White House? 

Not me, never in my wildest dreams.

As you probably know already, I didn’t grow up with a silver spoon in my mouth like so many of the career politicians I’ve had the misfortune of working with in the D.C. swamp.

I grew up poor, in the Rust Belt, in a small Ohio town that had been losing jobs and hope for generations. 

My Mamaw — God rest her soul — would go into medical debt just to put food on the table. Some nights, she didn't even have enough money to turn on the heat in the dead of winter.

In Middletown, hard-working families that gave everything they had to achieve the American Dream watched helplessly as their jobs were shipped overseas. 

The statistics tell you that kids like me face a grim future – that if they’re lucky, they’ll manage to avoid welfare.

I was one of those kids with a grim future, but through hard work, grit, determination, and the love of my grandparents, I made it out.

First to the Marines where I was deployed to Iraq, then to Yale where I met my incredible wife, and eventually all the way to the U.S. Senate where I faithfully served the great people of Ohio.

The greatest honor of my lifetime began when President Trump asked me to join his ticket. He said we had to save the country — and that together, we could win and we could govern.

After a whirlwind campaign and a decisive victory, we took office with a clear mission and a mandate from the American people. From day one, we got to work delivering on the promises we made.

Now, more than 400 days into this administration, we’ve been tested, challenged, and called to lead in serious moments. We’ve stayed focused, fought for our agenda, and worked every day to put America first.

More than 400 days later, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished and even more determined about what comes next.

President Trump and I are committed to keeping the American Dream alive for future generations and restoring this country’s great promise. But we want to hear directly from you about how we’re doing.
