Dear Friend,
Sallu the pony was forced to labor under the weight of a tonga, a two-wheeled
cart that carries passengers or cargo. And when the sensitive skin around his eyes became infested with parasites , his owner did nothing to help him.
Animal Rahat's groundbreaking mechanization program gets ponies like Sallu out
of the torturous tonga industry—and you now have a special opportunity to help
PETA support its urgent work to rescue more animals from this neglect and abuse.
Right now, your gift of just $2 or more will DOUBLE, up to the $25,000 goal, to
do twice as much to help relieve the suffering of ponies, bullocks, and other
animals in need.

Tonga carts are frequently overloaded, becoming so heavy that they injure the
ponies who are forced to haul them for hours and hours at a time—without any
breaks for rest, food, or water. When these working conditions cause medical
problems, the ponies' owners often don't seek treatment. That's what happened to
Sallu, leaving him with painful raw spots on his face.
Donate right now and your gift will do twice as much for animals like him. Donor Candace C. Carmichael will match all donations made to PETA's projects
supporting Animal Rahat by August 31, up to the $25,000 goal.
When possible, Animal Rahat staff members persuade the drivers to retire working
ponies and switch to animal-free vehicles, but many people can't afford to make
the transition on their own. With your support, the organization can provide the
funding that makes a working animal's retirement possible.
Sallu's suffering is over now that he lives at Animal Rahat's sanctuary. You can
help more ponies escape the tonga industry and finally get the peaceful
retirement that they deserve.
Don't leave working ponies and other animals waiting, and don't miss this
opportunity for your donation to be doubled. Make a commitment to the animals who desperately need your help by making a
gift today. Even $2 can make a difference.

On behalf of Sallu, the four ponies who were retired along with him, and all the
other animals who have benefited from Animal Rahat's mechanization program,
thank you for your compassion and support.
Kind regards,
Ingrid E. Newkirk
President
