One year ago today, House Republicans passed their “One Big Beautiful Bill” or as I call it the “One Big Ugly Bill.”

I don’t need to remind you exactly how ugly that bill was – because we are already seeing the consequences.

From cutting Medicaid and leaving millions of Americans without healthcare and devastating rural hospitals to cutting SNAP and letting seniors and children go hungry, this bill is risking lives and hurting our people.

I’ve seen the impact firsthand: Kentucky has been one of the hardest-hit states, with 200,000 Kentuckians’ healthcare at risk and 35 rural hospitals in danger as a direct result of cuts to Medicaid. Already, before the cuts have taken full effect, we have seen multiple healthcare facilities close their doors or cancel plans for expansion.

It was the single worst piece of legislation I’ve seen in my lifetime. And it’s exactly what we’ve come to expect from the Trump White House and the Republicans controlling Congress.

We deserve better. It’s why I’ve pushed to fully fund Medicaid, and to ensure that all kids have access to quality health coverage.

It’s also why I’m traveling to support candidates in Minnesota, Ohio, Colorado, Michigan, Iowa and every corner of the country who will put people, not politics, first.

Governors are the last line of defense against cuts to programs like Medicaid that help families thrive. This year, we have a real shot at building a firewall of Democratic governors across the country – but only if we mobilize now.
