<[link removed]>John, it's an honour to have been elected as Leader of the Liberal Democrats.
A huge thank you to all of you who voted, who showed up for hustings, who sent in questions and have been a part of this.
You’ve put your faith in me and I’m not going to let you down. Our Party and our country face extraordinary challenges. We must face those challenges together.
Together we can rebuild our party and deliver the fairer, greener and more caring society we all want to see.
My friend Layla Moran, ran a passionate campaign. Her energy has inspired many people and I look forward to her playing a big role in my team.
The mission that unites all of us now, is to build our party back up and get rid of this cruel, incompetent and arrogant Tory government.
But to win this fight, the Liberal Democrats must be relevant again. We’ve got to do better at General Elections.
And we won’t be able to do this unless we show people we share their values and are on their side.
That’s why today I am announcing a national listening project.
I want to hear from people up and down the country and from every walk of life.
You’ll hear more details about it soon and I really want you to be part of it.
Our journey back to national relevance is going to be a tough one and I cannot promise you it will be quick.
But I can promise you the hard work starts today.
I can promise you I will work day and night to achieve it.
And I can promise I will not let you down.
Best wishes,
Ed Davey
