Hi John,
This Fourth of July, Americans are proudly celebrating 250 years of our nation’s independence. We know that America’s unions and working families built this country and the middle class that powers it today.
The Trump administration and their allies in Congress will be popping champagne for another birthday this weekend. They’ll be commemorating the anniversary of their so-called “Big Beautiful Bill,” the budget bill signed into law last July 4 that threw millions off their health care and food assistance, and cut hundreds of thousands of health care jobs. It was made possible by every senator and representative who voted to sell out working people and pick our pockets to hand another payday to corporations and billionaires.
And all of this while the cost of everything continues to go up—and President Trump has already made more than $1 billion for himself while in office.
One year later, the “Big Ugly Bill”:
See more on how the Big Ugly Bill has been devastating for working people, and forward this to someone who needs to know.
In 1776, working Americans stood up against a powerful king who thought he could steal from us, trample on our rights and get away with it. We refused to be silenced. Two hundred and fifty years later, that same spirit is alive in American workers who organize their jobsites, show up at the ballot box and hold their elected representatives accountable.
This Independence Day and every day, America’s unions will continue to fight the damage this bill has caused—and build an economy that actually works for working people, not the billionaires and trillionaires.
We hope you have a safe and happy holiday with your loved ones.
In solidarity,
Team AFL-CIO
