But as LBJ addressed the nation that evening, he didn’t just celebrate. He issued a solemn warning to the American people that echoes with chilling relevance today. He closed his speech with these words:
“We are in a time of testing. We must not fail.”
Today, in 2026, America is once again trapped in a grueling time of testing.
