...Elizabeth May became the leader of the Green Party of Canada

Since August 26, 2006 we have come a long way together. Elizabeth's legacy has made Greens a force to be reckoned with!

Thanks to her charisma and media savvy, Elizabeth May has brought ever-increasing visibility to the Green Party. Did you know Greens were invited for the first time ever to televised election debates because of her insistence on Green voices being heard? This same tenacity and dedication led Elizabeth to her election as a Member of Parliament for the first time in 2011, and also grew the Party to have its first elected caucus in 2019.

During her 13 years as leader, Elizabeth has been a powerful and inspiring authority within the Party and in Parliament, championing climate action and pushing environmental protection as a central issue in policy discussions.

Today, we’re looking back on how far we've come, and for the first time since 2006 members of the Green Party of Canada will have the opportunity to vote in a leadership contest.

After our success in the 2019 election, we are about to experience another historic moment with the upcoming election of a new leader. Help write the next chapter in GPC's history. Become a member before September 3rd.
