Tonight, Vice President Mike Pence will address the Republican National Convention. I’m going to tell you why his speech will be wrong about our country, and wrong about our future -- but first, I need to ask you to chip in to help Joe Biden and me win this election, and stop the damage that the Trump-Pence administration is doing to our nation.

Donald Trump and Mike Pence can talk all they want about making America great again, but they can’t hide from their record. Look at where they’ve brought us:

American families are reeling from the worst public health crisis in a century, and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Trump and Pence have responded with incompetence.

Our nation is experiencing a moral reckoning with racism and systemic injustice, which has sent people of all ages, colors, and creeds to the streets to demand change. Trump and Pence have responded with callousness.

America is grieving, and Trump and Pence have tried to turn our tragedies into political weapons. They think it will help them win re-election, but they’re wrong. Because we know the truth: We can do so much better, and we deserve so much more.

We need a president who can bring us together, and who is ready to lead in this time of crisis. We need to elect Joe Biden.

What Joe Biden understands -- and Trump and Pence never will -- is that this campaign isn’t about him, or about me. It’s about you. It’s about us. It’s about what kind of nation we want to be, and what kind of future we’re going to leave behind to our children and grandchildren.

So tonight, I hope you can tune out all the noise coming from the Republican Convention, and focus on what you’re going to do to help answer those questions over the next 69 days.

I know one thing for sure: I’m glad to have you with us in this fight.

And I look forward to debating Mike Pence on the debate stage.
