The attempted murder of Jacob Blake by law enforcement is not new in a country whose legacy is rooted in state violence. Nor do you don’t get a white 17 year old killing protestors w/ an AR-15 without the President first vilifying protestors; or a gun lobby that has bought Congress and control of gun legislation, or a white nationalist culture stoked by Trump & his enablers.
But that is not the only legacy alive in America. Four years ago to the day, Colin Kaepernick bravely began sitting (later changed to kneeling) during the anthem in protest of social injustice and police brutality. Today, the WNBA, NBA and MLB teams all follow in his footsteps and demand justice in the name of Jacob Blake, Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Philando Castile, Michael Brown and so many more.
Progress is uncomfortable. It takes bold individuals putting their reputations and bodies on the line to get things done. It takes collective disobedience to inspire systemic change. And it takes love and rage to change hearts and minds.
What we allow will continue. But “if what you want is liberation, you can’t play by the rules of the state (@jasminprix)”. You must imagine something better. And then fight for it.

The NBA postponed tonight's playoff games in light of the Milwaukee Bucks' decision to boycott their game as a protest to Jacob Blake's shooting. They follow the lead of the WNBA [[link removed]], which has dedicated their entire season to social justice. [click to tweet] [[link removed]]
We must fight police violence against black lives on all fronts. Here’s how to engage:

GIVE: If you have the resources, support the family of Jacob Blake by donating to his gofundme campaign [[link removed]].
ADVOCATE: Support The Breathe Act [[link removed]] - this visionary bill divests our taxpayer dollars from brutal and discriminatory policing and invests in a new vision of public safety—a vision that answers the call to defund the police and allows all communities to finally BREATHE free.
SUPPORT PROTESTORS: Milwaukee Freedom Fund [[link removed]] is supporting protestors through legal representation and bail.
STRIKE: Resist, march, protest, strike for black lives. Here’s how to find an uprising near you [[link removed]].
