Friends, Wisconsin is reeling from the latest shooting of an unarmed Black American, Jacob Blake, by police and the subsequent shooting by an armed civilian militiaman that left two dead and another wounded.
This violence is the inevitable result of President Trump’s years of racist, disturbing rhetoric and actions. Yesterday, an emboldened militia posted a call to “take up arms” and last night, an out-of-state gunman did exactly that.
We must unite in opposition to violence. We must work to eradicate racism. And we cannot let Trump and the GOP further divide our nation and pit us against one another.
That’s why we must take immediate action: First: Support the family of Jacob Blake by chipping into their GoFundMe page and then please support the Milwaukee Freedom Fund as they provide assistance to folks in Kenosha. Then: Sign this petition to tell State Assembly Speaker Robin Vos to end his blockade of police reforms such as banning chokeholds and no-knock warrants.
Trump continues to attack the racial justice movement as a strategy to win re-election in November. Our nation simply can’t survive another four years of his hate and vitriol. We will continue to organize voters to ensure that the Trump era ends this November – and we commit to staying in the fight against racism and white supremacy for the long term.
We can’t remain silent as blood is shed.
