Friend,

In response to some recent Common Dreams coverage, a trusted old friend
and supporter of the site reached out to lament about the current
situation this world now faces.

"We are in the very dangerous waters now," this longtime ally wrote.

And you don't have to look far to see what that means: a pandemic
raging, an economy reeling, new fires burning, storms at sea brewing,
inequality still soaring, wars not ending, and the promise of democracy
cracking under the crush of corporate greed and a grotesque pathology
that treats both people and planet as exploitable at best and disposable
at worst.

The waters are indeed very dangerous, but we—those of us who believe
with our whole being in the necessity of lower-case common dreams—are
here to stand against the tide of hatred, cynicism, and the forces that
say our progressive vision for a better world must wait or stand aside.

We are in dangerous water now—it's true. But that danger only grows
larger if we succumb to those forces—of whatever political stripe—that
say our collective dreams for economic justice, healthcare for all,
ecological care, and a more peaceful future are naive or unattainable.

Common Dreams seeks to prove that there is an alternative to the
corporate-infested waters that have brought us to this point—but this
model of people-powered and mission-driven media only works if those who
trust in our work and believe in this vision come with us. As we always
say: without you, we don't exist.

In these hard and uncertain times we know that many cannot, but if you
can help sustain this mission today—every donation of any amount is
crucial—please join us now.
