It’s hard to believe how much has changed over the past few months. The real battle, however, lies ahead.

The federal government’s deficit will be nearly $350 billion this year. The Prime Minister and his colleagues are, yet again, embroiled in an ethics investigation. The Finance Minister has just resigned... in the middle of a pandemic.

And now the Prime Minister has shut down parliament so he can release his plan to fundamentally reshape Canada through significantly more government intervention.

Here at the Fraser Institute, we have been busier than ever, providing Canadians with the high-quality research they need to hold their governments accountable.

Early this year, we released a widely-shared study showing that government-sector workers enjoyed an 9.4% wage premium, on average, over comparable jobs in the private-sector. In June, we released an explosive study which found that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government has now recorded the highest ever per-person spending level of any federal government, including those that fought wars or faced recessions. Just recently, we exposed major flaws with the government’s Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) payments, showing that almost a million Canadians aged 15 to 24, who are still living with their parents in households with total incomes of at least $100,000, are eligible for the CERB payments.

Those are just a few of the 52 high-quality studies we have already released in 2020.

These studies inform people, spark news coverage in newspapers from coast-to-coast, reach millions of people online, and ultimately move the needle on Canadian discourse.
