Iran's Letter for Peace
Iranian players were only permitted entry into the U.S. one day before each match, staying in Tijuana for much of the tournament.
Despite those barriers, they left Los Angeles a simple message:
"May peace, respect, and friendship prevail among all nations."
After every match in Dallas, Japan's team left their locker room spotless.
The tradition is summed up in one Japanese phrase:
"Tatsu tori ato wo nigosazu."
It means:
"Return it the way you found it."
The U.S. Team Reflects America
Seven of the 26 players representing the United States are first-generation Americans—including Cristian Roldan from Pico Rivera and Ricardo Pepi from El Paso.
Nearly one-quarter of the roster reflects the dreams of immigrant families.
