Jacob Blake did not deserve to become a victim of police violence. He does not deserve a future where he may never walk again. His children do not deserve the trauma and painful reality of police brutality

This is just another disheartening example of the inhumane over-criminalization of Black people. Our nation was built on systematic racism that is present in every aspect of society, including our justice system.

For far too long, far too many young men and women of color have fallen victim to police violence with no hope of ever receiving justice. Enough is enough.

The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act was passed in the House to hold police accountable, end racial profiling, and change the culture of law enforcement that permits these horrific acts of violence to happen.

Yet, while families and communities of color are mourning and protesting, the Justice in Policing Act is sitting on Mitch McConnell's desk — collecting dust.

Today, I need the strength of our movement behind me. If we’re going to create the change this nation desperately needs, we must demand Mitch McConnell do his job and pass this bill NOW.
