John,
New polling has just been released that confirms foundational tenets of our strategy: a majority of voters are pro-choice, and this issue still has salience at the ballot box.
Let's start with the topline: nearly 8 in 10 Americans agree the government should not control personal medical decisions. That’s a majority of voters across party lines, making this a consensus position. This finding is right in line with other post-Roe polling.
Over half of voters agree that overturning Roe has been bad for the country, and more than 6 in 10 believe that abortion rights are nationally at risk.
But here's the single biggest takeaway from this data dump: anti-choice positions are now dealbreakers.
70% of voters say they could not support a candidate who backs a contraception ban. 65% say the same about a national abortion ban with no exceptions. Voters are drawing a hard line on this issue, which means that we need to make the views of anti-choice candidates crystal clear.
Finally, the data shows something else worth talking about: highlighting the real-world impacts of Trump’s policies for working families moves voters. A whopping 76% of voters are concerned that Trump and Republicans' Medicaid and SNAP cuts could lead to hospital closures and less access to care for women, including a majority of Republicans.
Taken all together, the lesson here is simple. Voters are already with us on these issues. What will decide critical races in November is whether we’re talking to them.
Four months out, this data confirms that healthcare access will be a defining issue of this election. Now, we must ensure that every voter knows where their candidates stand.
Thank you for being part of our movement,
