Starting in Seneca Falls in 1948, women fought for and won the right to vote 100 years ago today. We invite you to celebrate this historic milestone by joining women across our community in celebrating and marching for women. Our local Long Beach Silent Sentinels have been organizing events and demonstrations all year.



Tonight, we are joining First Partner of California Jennifer Seibel Newsom and the Forward Into Light Campaign by lighting up city landmarks in purple and gold, the official suffrage colors. They include:



- Long Beach City Hall

- The Port of Long Beach Headquarters

- The LONG BEACH gateway sign off the I-710

- Parkers' Lighthouse

- The Long Beach Airport



I want to highlight the work California’s First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom and our country’s Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission has been doing in honor of women across America. In addition, I want to thank Zoe Nicholson for her leadership in organizing women across Long Beach to celebrate the centennial and to remind us of the work for women's equality that still lies ahead.



This November when we vote, remember it’s been a hard earned right—and one of the most important things we can do as Americans. We still have work to do to ensure equity at the ballot box for all.
