Dear friends,
On August 26, 1920, the United States government certified the 19th Amendment, granting women the right to vote.
On August 26, 1970, over 50,000 women across the country marched in the Women's Strike for Equality. President Nixon named the occasion Women’s Equality Day.
Despite decades of progress in the fight against systemic sexism, Jim Crow laws, and underrepresentation of marginalized groups, the women who marched knew that we had so much farther to go. Fifty years later, we still see a long road ahead to achieve true equality for all.
Today, on August 26, 2020, I am running for Congress to become this district’s first congresswoman and carry on the fight. If you would like to elect a committed advocate for women, please consider making a contribution to my campaign: [link removed]
This Women’s Equality Day, I encourage you to reflect on the women, people of color, indigenous groups, LGBTQ communities, and brave Nebraskans who struggled and continue to struggle for rights and equal treatment.
The right to vote was hard-won – we must use it for good.
Together,
Kate Bolz
