Hey, it's Marcus.
I thought I’d share something interesting that Cindy Hyde-Smith wrote a couple years back.
It’s funny, I agree with the Senator on this one. In troubled times like these — record unemployment, a recession, stressed hospitals, and a global pandemic that has killed over 2,000 Mississippians — we need a senator who will work hard for the people, no matter what month it is.
But quit in August is exactly what Cindy Hyde-Smith did.
Like her boss Mitch McConnell, hypocritical Hyde-Smith left Washington for summer vacation 13 days ago. She did not pass relief for hospitals and schools. The last thing she did before leaving for vacation was watch as our $600 weekly unemployment benefits dried up, after voting months earlier to take money away from workers.
It has never been more urgent that we replace this do-nothing senator with Mike Espy on November 3 — especially with our August fundraising deadline in just five days.
Will you join me in doing everything we can to elect Mike Espy in November? Please chip in $10, or whatever you are able to give, to have a direct and immediate impact on electing Mike on November 3.
Mike, meanwhile, has been a leader for Mississippians throughout the pandemic. For months, he has been calling for more unemployment benefits, eviction relief, a mask mandate, and more funding for our schools and hospitals.
Since March, Mike has volunteered at food and PPE drops across the state, handing out vital resources to long lines of Mississippians. He listens to medical experts. He sees those of us bearing the brunt of this pandemic. And he always wears a mask.
In troubled times like these, we need someone like that fighting for us in the U.S. Senate — not a hypocrite who says the Senate shouldn’t “abandon” their work “before the job is done” one year, and then does exactly that the next.
So, I do agree with what Cindy Hyde-Smith wrote in 2018: The “Senate should be ready to work nights, weekends, and through August” to get the work done. She won’t put in the work — but Mike will, and already is.
Whatever amount you’re able to donate today, even $10, will have a direct and immediate impact on our grassroots campaign and electing Mike Espy. Can I count on your support before our August fundraising deadline in five days?
Thanks and talk soon,
Marcus Williams
