Folks,

Last week, President Trump denied critical funding for the U.S. Postal Service and admitted that withholding funding would prevent the agency from effectively delivering mail-in and absentee ballots in the November election. His actions hurt the millions of Americans who rely on the USPS to deliver life-saving medication, essentials, Social Security checks and vote-by-mail ballots, and are staying at home to protect themselves and their communities during the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump’s appointed Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, implemented and then tried to walk back damaging measures including cutting postal workers’ hours, limiting post office business hours, and removing essential mail sorting equipment. Since then, we’ve seen disturbing reports of mailboxes and more mail sorting machines being removed, and DeJoy admitted during a Senate hearing that he has no plan to replace them. This is unacceptable and the situation is now beyond critical.

That’s why my colleagues in the House of Representatives and I traveled to Washington, D.C. last Saturday to pass a bill that will provide emergency funding and secure protections for the U.S. Postal Service. The Delivering for America Act will protect the USPS from any further changes and setbacks, ensure the agency is prepared to handle the influx of mail-in ballots in the coming months, and secure its survival beyond the election.

We cannot stand by and let partisan politics stand in the way of this critical service. We need to present a united front in these difficult and trying times. If you stand with me in protecting the U.S. Postal Service, add your name to my petition to demand we make the Delivering for America Act law and save the USPS.

This week, DeJoy faced the House to hold him accountable for his mishandling of the U.S. Postal Service since he took the helm mid-June. We will not stop fighting to save the USPS from actions for political gain. Too many lives are on the line, from the hundreds of thousands of postal workers, to the veterans and at-risk communities that rely on the USPS every day.

It is so important that I have your support as we do all we can to protect the only system that provides universal and affordable delivery to the entire country. The U.S. Postal Service is required by law to serve all Americans, regardless of where they live, but they can’t do that without the critical funding, resources, and protections needed to keep them operational.

In order for the USPS creed – "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds" – to ring true, we must do everything in our power in this moment to save the USPS. Friend, please sign the petition to demand emergency funding and protections for our Postal Service now. [[link removed]]
