Happy Pride! As I celebrate my third year as The Center’s CEO, I am reflecting on what is possible when we stand together. The Center is more than a building—it is a promise. A promise born in 1983, when our community created a place to resist, belong, and be seen when the world wanted us to disappear.
That promise endures. We are a sanctuary for LGBTQ+ New Yorkers, and always will be. Please join our promise by donating today.
We are witnessing attacks on freedoms our elders fought to win. But if we’ve learned anything over the years, it’s this: never bet against our community.
We are organized. We are battle-tested. We know how to survive and prevail.
Every day at The Center, our community finds safety, support, and belonging. It is the young person who finally exhales because they feel seen. The parent learning how to support a teen who has come out. The queer elder finding peace in our garden.
But belonging is more than a feeling, it requires action. It requires us to listen to our community and respond with programs that meet people where they are, especially during moments of crisis and uncertainty. Through new and expanded programming, we are doing exactly that.
This past year, we helped provide access to rental assistance to LGBTQ+ community members in need of stable housing. In April, we launched a domestic violence hotline, ensuring that nearly 1,100 survivors a year can access safety and referrals from the place they call home: The Center.
We also continue to provide mental health and substance use counseling, youth programs, and space for more than 400 groups and events each year—created by and for our community—keeping our culture, connections, and activism thriving.

Pride has always demanded more than celebration. It demands commitment: to show up, protect one another, preserve our history, and build a future where every member of our community can live fully and freely.
