NPR: “More Than 550,000 Primary Absentee Ballots Rejected In 2020, Far Outpacing 2016”

John: More than 550,000 ballots were rejected in this year’s presidential primary elections. That’s 318,000 more than in the 2016 general election.

These numbers actually underscore the importance of our program: The majority of ballots were rejected because they arrived late. We’re texting and calling voters right after they receive their ballots so their votes arrive on time and they’re counted.

Chip in before the end-of-month deadline so we can help voters in swing states cast ballots from home and to ensure their votes are counted this November →

We’re operating with precision every step of the way, and walking voters through the process to make sure their vote arrives on time and it’s counted. Information and timing are key -- and we’re informing voters of ways they can safely return their ballots either through the mail, drop boxes, or at their local election office.

Every vote matters in a year when Trump is at the top of the ticket. That’s why Vote From Home 2020’s mission is to make sure every Democrat is able to cast their ballot this year. Donald Trump won Pennsylvania in 2016 by just over 44,000 votes. More than 37,000 ballots for the Pennsylvania primary were rejected this year.

That many rejected ballots in swing states could make the difference between a victory and a loss this November.

Ballots are often rejected for common mistakes like a missing signature, the ballot arrived too late, or it was incorrectly filled out. And voters who are casting ballots from home for the first time are more likely to make these kinds of mistakes.

John -- it’s worrisome. But here’s the good news: We’re walking voters in swing states through the process to make sure they complete their ballot and return it on time. That’s the only way we’ll defeat Trump.

All of that outreach to voters requires resources.

With less than a week left until the end-of-month fundraising deadline, will you chip in to help us connect with voters in swing states to help them vote from home?

Thanks,

Team VFH 2020

Vote From Home 2020 is a grassroots movement that's making vote by mail more accessible. With a $25 donation, we'll send vote by mail applications to 20 voters. COVID-19 has brought America to a halt, and with it almost all in-person voter mobilization efforts. While volunteers can’t get on buses to swing states or go door-to-door right now, there is a huge opportunity for progressives, especially in solidly blue states, to get out the vote where it counts. By sending vote by mail ballots to targeted states and following up with text and calls to voters, we can ensure the 2020 general election is safe and accessible. Please forward this email if you know someone who may be interested. Our average gift is just under $25 so consider donating that today to support voting rights.
