Dear friend,
Did you see my email last week?
Tomorrow our energy bills will go up by an average of £221 a year. This is a travesty when we're in the middle of a heatwave and fans or air conditioning are the only things helping keep us cool.
It's also going to add to the billions in energy debt that families are facing across the UK. We're demanding the government take action and bring in their promised debt relief scheme.
Will you sign our petition today to bring down energy debt? ([link removed])
Thanks, and stay cool!

Subject: Our bills are going up
Hello friend,
Our energy bills are about to go through the roof. Again.
Tensions in the Middle East have pushed up global oil prices, and households are set to feel the impact. From 1 July, energy bills are expected to increase by an average of £221 a year.

But that's only part of the story. During the cost of living crisis, millions of people faced unpayable bills. The result is a staggering £5.5 billion in energy debt — the highest level on record.
Last year we won a major victory when Ofgem, the energy regulator, agreed to a scheme to write off £1 billion of this debt, but since then the government has been dragging its feet and has failed to introduce the support people were promised.
While families struggle to keep up with rising costs, energy industry profits are reported to have reached £3 billion in the first three months of this year alone.
The government must act before this debt crisis spirals even further out of control, by introducing the promised debt relief scheme. Add your name to our urgent petition calling for action on the energy debt crisis.
Enough Is Enough: I’ll Add My Name ([link removed])
Behind every statistic, there’s a person, worrying about energy bills and how they are going to keep the lights on.
New research from the End Fuel Poverty Coalition shows that people already trapped in energy debt are being forced into impossible choices. More than one in five have skipped meals, and one in four are in debt to someone who makes them feel scared. This shouldn’t be how people are forced to live in 2026.
The government has waited long enough to bring in the energy debt relief scheme, and now we’re at breaking point. They must act now, before millions more are pushed into debt. We’re calling for urgent action to write off the debt, paid for by a windfall tax on energy industry profits.
Please add your voice to the campaign, help make a noise they can’t ignore.
The good news is that we know public pressure works. The more of us that raise our voices and say enough is enough, the harder it is for Ministers not to respond. That’s why I’m writing to you today with this urgent action.
As ever, thank you so much for your ongoing support!
In solidarity,
Toby, Eva, Jessica, and everyone at Debt Justice
