Around 5 AM yesterday morning a literal fireball streaked across the skies of Louisiana and the Deep South. 

The timing of this omen is no coincidence. In the hours that preceded the meteor’s arrival, Louisianians witnessed signs of another revelation.

Throughout history, omens like comets and meteors have been read either as forebearers of good luck and coming change, or of approaching catastrophe. At this moment in American history, we stand at a crossroads and could head either way.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in Louisiana where MAGA has used their complete control of state power to declare a ‘state of emergency,’ launching a full tilt fascist assault unparalleled to anywhere else in the nation.

They’ve implemented a slate of the most extreme far-right policies in modern US history, they deployed the national guard to New Orleans, rushed through Jim Crow style maps, cancelled our elections, and conducted a coup to eliminate a sitting Democratic US Congressman. We all fear what comes next.

But for every sign of destruction and division, there is something else— hope for salvation on a biblical scale: The Miracle on the Mississippi.

At 9 PM Saturday night we declared victory in our runoff to become the Democratic Nominee for US Senate in Louisiana with a commanding 79.9% of the vote and a clean sweep of every single parish (county) in the state. 

Even the Ragin’ Cajun James Carville, is now saying we have a “fighting chance” to win the race for Louisiana’s US Senate seat. Last night we proved it.

We have the numbers: Louisiana is one-third Democrat, one-third Republican, one-third no party — with 75% of independents expressing opposition to the administration.

However, we are now going toe to toe with the full arsenal of the NRSC and RNC who will soon open the gates of hell to destroy me, my campaign, and the hope for change we’re fighting for.

But at this moment, our fate is not written. Neither the demise of Louisiana and our nation, nor our salvation by a Democratic resurgence and a Miracle on the Mississippi, is assured.

The gospel tells us that faith without works is dead and the reality we soon adopt will be shaped by the work we put in over the coming 127 days until November 3rd. We have the power to rewrite fate and will a miracle into existence.
