After two devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela on Thursday, Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams have continued distributing emergency medical supplies while preparing for the next phase of the response. Local authorities report that over 1,400 people have lost their lives while thousands more have been injured or displaced.
I want to acknowledge your incredible generosity and this incredible community of supporters. You’ve been by our side as our teams began responding to this disaster. Thank you for staying true to the spirit of MSF’s global movement.
As humanitarian needs continue to grow, your support is needed now more than ever. Rush a donation to help MSF provide lifesaving medical care in Venezuela and wherever the next emergency strikes. |
As of today, we have distributed medical supplies to eight hospitals in Caracas and La Guaira to treat approximately 3,500 patients for trauma injuries. These donations were particularly impactful. As one of the only international aid organizations present during the first hours following the disaster, MSF was able to help fill critical supply gaps when hospitals had exhausted their emergency stocks.
Our teams are prepared to adapt and support the evolving medical humanitarian needs as the response moves beyond the initial trauma phase. This is particularly crucial as people who were displaced by the disaster find themselves in parks, stadiums, and other informal settlements. We plan to provide mental health care and deliver medical care via mobile clinics. Thousands of people have no shelter as many residential buildings have suffered extensive structural damage.
Supporters like you are helping us save lives and meet the growing need for care in all the places we work. As we enter the next phase of the disaster response, your support will be critical. I will do my best to keep you updated on the impact of your contributions as this situation develops. Our teams are often the first to arrive, and we remain long after emergencies fade from the headlines.
We continue to provide lifesaving care for as long as our patients need us—but only with your help. Rush a donation to power our emergency response in Venezuela and around the world. |
Thank you for standing with our patients and our teams at this urgent moment.
With deepest gratitude, |
