It’s Women’s Equality Day, the anniversary of women in the United States gaining the right to vote — the day that the 19th Amendment was officially adopted and certified.

Although this is a historic day and was a major step toward women's equality, we must also acknowledge that this was not wholly inclusive. Upon the passage of the 19th Amendment, the United States still denied voting rights for Native women, Black women, and all women of color for decades.

Today, there is still much more work to be done for complete women's equality. Women — particularly women of color and transgender women — are battling for equal rights when it comes to employment, housing, healthcare, and many other fronts.

I promise to use my privilege as a white woman to further all women’s causes, because until ALL women achieve equality, the fight is not over.

As New Mexico’s Secretary of State, I'm working to make sure that every voice is heard through open, accessible voter registration and elections. And I remain dedicated to empowering ALL women against discrimination.

Only together, can we achieve true equality for women.
