When I was growing up in Peoria, my family didn't have much. But we had something that mattered more than money: The belief that if you worked hard enough, this country would meet you halfway. That the doors would open. That the next generation would have it better than the last.
I built my entire life around that belief.
But I look around today and I'm concerned. Not for myself — for the families who are where my family was. The ones working two jobs and still falling behind. The kids graduating into mountains of debt. The parents who are doing everything right and still can't afford to keep a roof over their heads.
The American Dream that saved my family is slipping out of reach for millions of people just like us. And I refuse to accept that as inevitable.
That's exactly why I started Equal Opportunity Now.
Because I genuinely believe that if we don't fight like hell right now — to elect leaders who give a damn, to take on the powerful interests rigging the system against working families, to build something that lasts beyond this moment — we are going to lose something we can never get back.
