John,
Earlier this year, Issue One released a ground-breaking digital research project, “Coordination Watch,” which counted the ways in which candidates and outside groups, like super PACs and dark money groups, work together to evade anti-coordination rules. One of the reasons candidates and groups can get away with breaking the law is because the Federal Election Commission (FEC) doesn’t do its job.
Since the project’s initial release, we’ve been continuing to call out corruption and have flagged instances in which outside groups have appeared to skirt anti-corruption rules and coordinated with candidates in 2020 races. We’ve also detailed how Congress and the FEC could step up to better enforce election laws.
Be sure to check out our latest update where we’ve rounded up recent examples of coordination reported by the media to help call out when our nation’s anti-corruption laws are being broken.
Thank you for your continued support,
Michael Beckel Research Director, Issue One
