John,

When my little brother Daniel was in kindergarten, we both went to the same school: Sandy Hook Elementary.

We'd get off the bus together, and I'd walk him to his classroom every morning. Sometimes I'd hold his hand as we walked down the hall, and then he'd give me a big hug and kiss before he turned into his classroom. Some fourth graders might have been embarrassed, but I wasn't – we were just so close.

This year, I should be helping Daniel start his very first year of high school. I should be giving him all my best advice – about which clubs and teams to join, and what classes he should take.

But I'll never get the chance, because Daniel was murdered in his first-grade classroom.

I still feel the pain of losing my brother every day. I don't think people realize that even after nearly eight years, the grief never stops. His murder has affected my life in every way, and I feel like if you can spare someone that pain – if you can spare one kid like Daniel from losing their life – how could you possibly not do so?

One thing we can do today is make sure Sandy Hook Promise reaches their $350,000 goal to support their critical work to prevent more tragedies as many kids head back to school. But they're currently falling short, so I need to ask you: Will you please give right now, before Friday's deadline, to protect children like Daniel from gun violence?

Please donate $10, or as much as you can, to Sandy Hook Promise right now. If we don't all step up to prevent gun violence, more kids like my brother could be in danger.

There was a time when I never wanted to think about gun violence again. I didn't want to be constantly reminded of Daniel's death. But I realized that we all have to act, even if we don't want to. It's the only way to put a stop to these tragedies and build a safer world for all kids.

By helping us reach our goal today, you're bringing us one step closer to making that world possible. Thank you so much for your support, and for all you do to honor my little brother.
