Among the legislation approved was Andrew's TSA Reimbursable Screening Services Program (RSSP) Extension Act, which extends a successful program that helps airports expand screening operations, reduce wait times, and improve the travel experience without compromising security. Watch the Full Podcast WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Congratulations to Our Congressional Art Competition Winner Andrew was happy to meet with this year's Congressional Art Competition winner, Katheryne, and congratulate her on her outstanding achievement. Every year, talented student artists from across New York's Second District showcase their creativity, and Andrew looks forward to seeing the winning artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Katheryne's talent is a great reflection of the young artists in NY-02 and welcomes all students to join in future congressional art competitions. Honoring Local Heroes Andrew's team was honored to attend the Lt. Michael P. Murphy Run this week, joining members of the community to celebrate the life and legacy of the Patchogue native and Medal of Honor recipient. The annual event brings Long Islanders together to honor Lt. Murphy's extraordinary service and sacrifice while supporting the values of courage and selfless service he embodied. Andrew was also proud to recognize a local hero, Richard, whose quick 911 call and fire safety knowledge helped save multiple lives. In recognition of his heroic actions, Richard was presented with a U.S. flag flown over the U.S. Capitol and a Congressional Certificate of Special Recognition. Casework Highlight: Helping Honor a WWII Veteran When a Long Island family faced months of delays trying to obtain the military medals earned by their late father during World War II, Andrew's office stepped in to work with the National Archives. After contacting the agency on the family's behalf, the office helped secure confirmation of the veteran's service medals, ensuring his family's long-awaited request was finally resolved. Helping constituents navigate federal agencies is one of the most important services our office provides. If you ever need assistance with a federal agency, please don’t hesitate to reach out. WHAT'S NEW IN CONGRESS Delivering for Long Island Commuters Andrew was proud to join bipartisan colleagues in introducing the COVID-19 Commuter Benefits Distribution Act, legislation to help workers recover commuter benefit funds left unused during the COVID-19 pandemic. As commuting patterns changed almost overnight, many workers were left with funds they had earned but could no longer access. This commonsense legislation would provide a temporary exception to current IRS rules, allowing workers to recover money they set aside while providing long-overdue relief for thousands of commuters on Long Island and across the country. Strengthening America's Cyber Defenses Andrew met with leaders from Edison International to discuss the growing cyber threats facing America's critical infrastructure and electric grid. As Chairman of the Homeland Security Committee, Andrew continues working with industry leaders and government partners to better understand emerging threats and strengthen our nation's cyber defenses. Protecting critical infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated cyberattacks remains one of the Committee's top priorities. Defending America's Capital Markets At a House Financial Services Committee hearing, Andrew highlighted the strength of America's capital markets and the important role they play in supporting economic growth. He emphasized that strong investor protections and transparent regulations continue to make the United States the world's leading destination for investment. Andrew also stressed that preserving these strengths is essential to helping businesses raise capital and expand opportunities for millions of Americans saving for retirement. Thanks for reading!
