I just became the Democratic nominee for New York’s 17th Congressional District and will officially face off against Mike Lawler this November.

This is one of only three districts nationwide that split their ticket in 2024 for Kamala Harris and a Republican. There is no path for Democrats to take back the House without winning this seat.

I’m running for Congress not because this was ever part of some big life plan. But because the country I was willing to die for, the one I’ve lost countless friends defending, is becoming something I barely recognize.

My opponent, Republican Mike Lawler, has a massive fundraising advantage over us. That means that we are the underdogs heading into the general election. From here on out, we can expect the attacks and mudslinging to only increase.

It’s going to be an uphill battle. But I’ve never shied away from a tough fight.

That’s what I’ve done my entire life. I joined the Army after 9/11. I deployed six times overseas, serving in combat zones like Iraq and Afghanistan, hunting down brutal terrorists to keep America and the world safe.
