We’re now two days into the Republican National Convention, and the contrast between our parties could not be more clear: While Democrats held a convention last week reinforcing our values of a more inclusive, equitable America, the Republicans are using their convention to continue to stoke the flames of division and hatred in our country.
The Republican Party is not only falling in line behind Donald Trump, but actively rewarding his irresponsible behavior. He’s mismanaged the worst public health crisis we’ve seen in over a century, driven our economy into the ground, normalized xenophobia and bigotry -- I could go on. Instead of rising up to meet the demands of this moment and fighting for a more optimistic, just nation, the GOP is ignoring the very real pain Americans are feeling in favor of grossly unjustified self-praise. That is not leadership. That is cowardice, plain and simple.
John, we must give the final days of this election everything we’ve got. The American people deserve leaders who see a challenge and confront it head on -- not with fear, but with compassion and optimism. That can only happen if we elect Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and Democrats down the ticket, and frankly, our party is relying on your help in this final stretch.
