I just stepped offstage after delivering my speech at the Texas Democratic
Convention.

Before I ask you to [ [link removed] ]chip in $5 to power our campaign, I’d like to share
with you what I told the crowd:

Onstage just now, I talked about the American Dream.

When I was a little girl growing up in Brownsville, that phrase used to
mean something. It meant if you worked hard, you could do more than just
survive – you and your family could thrive.

The American Dream was a promise that if you worked a full-time job, you
could afford to own a home. Afford to pay your bills. Afford to raise a
family, and maybe even take a vacation now and then. And, yes, that you
could afford to retire with dignity.

But under Greg Abbott’s leadership, that dream has slipped away. Our
American Dream is out of reach because of the Greg Abbott Corruption Tax.

Thanks to him, we’re stuck paying more and getting less. Because of
Abbott’s no-bid contracts, his school voucher scam, and his giveaways to
corporate billionaires and ultra-wealthy friends, WE are stuck paying the
price.

And let me be crystal clear: Texans are not asking for handouts. We are
asking for what we already paid for.

This November, we have an opportunity to win a better Texas. One that
rewards hard work and puts the American Dream back within our grasp. But
we have to vote for it. We have to work for it. And that means doing all
we can to build a campaign capable of taking on Greg Abbott and the
billionaires.
