Friend, I'm writing to invite you to join me in D.C. this Friday.
This past Sunday's tragic police shooting in Wisconsin of yet another unarmed Black man, Jacob Blake, is why we must all speak up for justice. Black Americans continue to die at the hands of law enforcement officers and vigilantes far too often, and the tragic pattern must be stopped in its tracks.
Friend, Black lives matter -- and the only way our systems and institutions will reflect that fact is if we all demand it.
Please join me this Friday, August 28th, in Washington D.C. for the "Get Off Our Necks" Commitment March -- to affirm our commitment to fighting for voting rights, policing reform, and racial justice >>
This Friday, August 28th 2020, is the 57th anniversary of the historic March on Washington, where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech.
Our partners at the National Action Network have called for this march because we must all recommit ourselves to King's vision -- and show up to fight for a country and a democracy that works for every one of us.
We'll meet up at the Lincoln Memorial -- here is the schedule for the day:
Gather at 7:00 a.m.
Pre-Program from 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Program from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
March at 1:00 p.m.
Conclude by 3:00 p.m.
Please sign up here to let us know you'll join us this Friday >>
This is a process of continual growth, and different people are at different places -- many are even waking up to some of these issues for the first time.
But, it’s important that right now, each of us commit to working for equity for the long haul, which starts by taking concrete action right now.
In common cause,
Keshia Morris Desir, Mass Incarceration Project Manager
and the team at Common Cause
P.S. As recommended by the march's organizers, please be sure to review all coronavirus travel & health related information on the DC website at www.coronavirus.dc.gov.
