We are in the midst of the most perilous economic downturn in our country’s history amidst a global health pandemic.
This serious situation demanded serious action from Congress. In May, I joined a bipartisan group of leaders who passed the $600 weekly enhanced unemployment benefit to help more than 30 million Americans who were forced from their jobs to protect our health.
But now, while nearly 1 in 5 workers in America are relying on unemployment benefits while they wait to get back to work -- the enhanced benefit has expired. I have heard countless stories from Nevada families who are being forced to make heartbreaking financial decisions as a result.
We have to do something about this. I just joined my colleagues in signing a letter to Congressional leadership, asking that they extend enhanced unemployment benefits for the duration of the recession so that Americans can continue to provide for their families during these tough times.
I need to know you’re with me on this -- I’m asking 15,000 people to add their names to our petition that calls on Congress to tackle this important issue. Can I count on you to show your support by signing on?
Thank for your using your voice,
Congresswoman Susie Lee
