June 15th marked the 14th anniversary of DACA.
It should have been a celebration.
Instead, I spent the day in Chicago holding an oversight hearing with my colleagues to hear directly from Dreamers, undocumented immigrants, and advocates about the uncertainty and fear they continue to live with every single day.
Donate now and help us build the political power needed to win permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship.
That reality is unacceptable.
Fourteen years ago, immigrant youth organized and forced this country to recognize a simple truth: people who grew up here deserve the chance to stay here. DACA changed lives. It opened doors to education, careers, and opportunity for hundreds of thousands of Dreamers.
But it never evolved into the permanent pathway to citizenship Dreamers were promised. And now, under Donald Trump, even the promised protections are under attack.
At our hearing, we heard from people who have built their entire lives in this country—people who work in healthcare, education, and public service—yet still wake up every day wondering if they will be forced to leave the only home they've ever known.
No one should have to live like that.
