Tell the Senate to restore and extend the Voting Rights Act.

John,

Just a few weeks ago, our nation mourned the loss of John Lewis. Congressman Lewis put his very life on the line--again and again--to fight Jim Crow-era institutions that kept Black Americans from voting.

Perhaps the greatest legacy of his activism was the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965. For decades, this law protected the fundamental democratic principle of equal access to the ballot box. It led to the creation of more majority-minority congressional districts, giving Black and Brown communities more representation in the halls of power.

But in recent years, all our progress has been under attack. The Supreme Court dismantled key parts of the VRA in 2013, and we've seen systemic restrictions on voting rights at the state level, in the form of voter ID laws, purges of voter rolls, and aggressive gerrymandering that dilutes the political power of minority communities.

If we want to honor John Lewis' legacy with more than just words, we have to renew, restore, and expand the Voting Rights Act.

The House voted to do this in December. Yet the reaction from Mitch McConnell in the Senate for eight months has been nothing but shameful silence and inaction.

That must change today. On the eve of the most consequential election of our lifetimes, there is nothing more important than ensuring a free and fair election. And elections are neither free nor fair if the right to vote is infringed upon.

So add your name to stand with candidates, advocates, and elected officials demanding that the Senate restore the Voting Rights Act. If we can get 30,000 signatures this week, we'll be making a powerful statement that will be hard to ignore.
