Today marks four years since the Trump-appointed Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. 

That decision stripped away abortion protections that had existed for half a century, leaving millions of people vulnerable and forcing many to travel hundreds of miles over state lines just to access basic healthcare.

Here in Illinois, we trust women to make their own choices.

We are proud to be a safe haven for those seeking reproductive healthcare. When I got elected in 2018, reproductive rights were under assault by Donald Trump, and we had no time to waste. That’s why I signed legislation to protect the right to a safe abortion and critical reproductive care long before the Dobbs decision came down.

Today, that work continues.

Right now, I am running against an opponent, Darren Bailey, who opposes abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Just recently, he proclaimed that there is no one “more pro-life” than he is. He is too extreme for Illinois.

The Dobbs decision was a stark reminder that even hard-won freedoms can slip away when the wrong people are in power. At a time when MAGA Republicans are attacking reproductive rights from Washington, I promise to always stand up for women in Illinois.
