Today we're launching our very first episode of Unapologetically Progressive, a free virtual event series that highlights young progressive candidates running for local office in battleground states.
We're starting the series off with one the most exciting states of the cycle: Texas.
Texas has been a stronghold for the Republican party for nearly two decades but is now in play for Democrats at the local, state, and federal levels.
What's particularly exciting about Texas is that after years of hard work, Democrats only need to pick up 9 state House seats out of 150 to flip the chamber blue and break the Republican trifecta (when a party controls both legislative chambers and the executive office in a state).
And in a redistricting year, the stakes are even higher. If Republicans get the chance to redraw congressional districts the way they'd like to, Democrats will be locked out of power in Texas for the next decade. (And that's on top of the voter suppression laws the Texas GOP is likely to keep passing.)
But we can impede their chance to gerrymander districts and harm Texans by electing young progressives who will fight for fair, balanced districts and more equitable laws. That's where Unapologetically Progressive and you come in:
