The Scalise Capitol Report

While Tropical Storm Marco arrived in Louisiana as a weakening storm, we must not let our guard down as Hurricane Laura approaches the Gulf coast. The latest National Hurricane Center forecasts predict that Laura will strengthen to a Category 3 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico and make landfall late Wednesday or early Thursday morning. Conditions are likely to begin deteriorating along the Southeast Louisiana coast on Wednesday, but they could begin deteriorating as early as Tuesday night for some areas.

A dangerous storm surge is expected, along with heavy rains, strong winds, and flooding. As the track and severity of Laura may change, please follow the advice of your local officials, monitor your local news, and finalize your preparations today.

  • Here’s the latest from the National Weather Service in New Orleans and the National Hurricane Center on Hurricane Laura and the impacts we can expect in Louisiana.
