friend – debt vultures are swooping on countries in crisis. But there’s a way we can stop them.

From Senegal to Sri Lanka, Ethiopia to El Salvador, there are children who can’t go to school, hospitals that can’t offer people the treatment they need, and homes that can’t be rebuilt when climate disaster strikes – all because these countries are trapped in a debt crisis.

Money needed for essential services is being drained away into the pockets of some of the world’s richest banks and hedge funds through debt payments. These greedy private lenders have already made millions from the debt crisis. Now debt vultures are swooping in to take their pickings – and suing countries like Ethiopia for millions.

But there is good news. All this is happening through our legal system, here in the UK – and that means we have the power to stop it!

friend, can you chip in £10 ([link removed]) to seize our chance to stop the vultures? Your donation will make sure we can pile the pressure on politicians until they bring in a new law and end this injustice.
Yes, I can chip in ([link removed])
Ethiopia has been hit by a multitude of crises in recent years – including severe drought. Over 21 million people need humanitarian support. And now the country is being sued.

But the vultures suing Ethiopia for millions never lent them a penny. These speculators work by buying up the debts of countries in crisis at rock bottom prices. Then they threaten legal action to make them huge profits. It’s a level of injustice that I frankly find obscene.

And it’s an injustice that our government could stop. Because Ethiopia’s debt contract is enforced through UK law – just like 90% of the debt contracts between lower-income countries and private companies. That means a debt justice law here in the UK would stop the vultures in their tracks!

Thanks to the thousands of people like you on our side, friend, our campaign has already taken some huge strides forward: bringing MPs on board, getting the government to commit to “tackling unsustainable debt”, and even introducing a bill to parliament. But we must keep up the pressure to keep pushing towards the finish line. For Ethiopia and the 53 other countries in debt crisis, there’s no time to lose.

Could you give £10 today ([link removed]) ? Together we can mobilise more people to take action and put pressure on their MPs, work together with campaigners across the globe, to amplify the call for action, and get media coverage that will influence politicians.

I understand that not everyone can afford to donate right now, friend. But if you can, whatever you can give will add strength to our campaign.

I know that we can beat the vultures – because we’ve done it before. In 2010, we campaigned for a change in the law that would force debt vultures to take part in debt relief and cancel historic debts – and we won. If we stand strong together, we can beat the vultures once more!

Thank you for all your support, we appreciate all you do to win debt justice.
