Content Warning: This email discusses police violence
John,
Yesterday, a police officer shot yet another Black man. His name is Jacob Blake and he is now fighting for his life in a hospital in Wisconsin.
The police shot Jacob seven times in the back while his children watched. My heart feels as if it's breaking into a thousand pieces — again.
For those who are upset about our calls to “defund”: Is saving those funds more valuable than human life? Will you shed tears for him while advocating for militarized police forces?
This is about humanity. Many of us didn’t choose to become activists. We were activated.
We can not stand to sit on the sidelines while our people were brutalized so needlessly. At some point, we choose to accept police violence, or we don’t.
That’s why I will fight to defund the police and instead invest in our communities with resources such as mental health care, counselors and social workers in schools, Medicare for All, and housing for all.
I will work everyday in Congress to end police brutality, and reimagine our justice system. Because this brutality and violence cannot continue.

Thank you for being a part of our movement to take on systems of oppression that are constantly hurting our communities. Together we will fight for justice.
