"Every parent wants to give their children the very best. And I’m no
exception."
Serhii is a farmer who works every day to create a livelihood for his
family and a brighter future for his children. In most ways, he’s just
like any parent.
Except Serhii’s family lives in Ukraine, a country that has been at war
for more than four years. They had to flee home and leave behind their
farm, their belongings, and their sense of peace and security.
Every day, our teams at Mercy Corps help fathers care for their families
through unimaginable hardships — fleeing horrific violence, searching for
safety, struggling to find enough food and medical care. That’s because we
believe every father should be able to love, protect, and support their
children.

Serhii now lives temporarily with his wife and two daughters in Dnipro. He
has been rebuilding the family’s vegetable farming business from scratch,
planting peppers, tomatoes, and seedlings.
Mercy Corps’ Ukraine Agriculture Support Program has transformed their
work with a new tractor and greenhouses.

"It’s improved our work by about 70%," Serhii explains, noting that the
new equipment has accelerated production that would have taken years to
rebuild otherwise. With the ability to grow crops under cover, the
vegetables are healthier and of higher quality, and seasonal workers help
them expand their operations to supply markets in Dnipro, Kyiv, and
beyond.
For his family, the project is more than a business investment — it’s a
way to restore normalcy, hope, and independence after years of upheaval.
Looking ahead, Serhii dreams of expanding the farm, introducing new crops,
and giving his daughters the best future possible.
