Dear friends,
I always knew my calling was to help people. Early in my career, I took a position as an Emerson Hunger Fellow, a program committed to ending poverty and food insecurity in the United States. The experiences and insights I gained from that fellowship led me to become a social worker, which led me to become a state senator, which led me to run for Congress.
I am so grateful for my early exposure to community service and civic engagement. Not only did it shape the future of my career, it taught me the profound values of selflessness, generosity, and justice.
Every young person in America should have access to opportunities to serve their communities, connect with mentors and peers, and build pathways to fulfilling careers. But unfortunately, many young people do not.
That is why, if elected to Congress, I will establish a National Endowment for Community Service and Leadership. This will create a long-term investment in programs like Americorps and Teach For America that employ young people in a range of civic engagement projects, and will allow communities around the country to develop and fund the service projects that reflect their own needs.
Imagine a world in which communities have access to bright young people who want to help out. Imagine who those bright young people will grow up to be, and what kind of world they will build.
So, if you would like to see the United States make a real investment in community service, please consider making a contribution to my campaign for Congress. We are powered by grassroots donations and every little bit makes a difference.
Your support means the world to me. Thank you for everything you do.
Sincerely,
Kate Bolz
