John --

The United States Postal Service is critical to our society in any year -- delivering medications to veterans, paychecks to freelancers, birthday cards and condolences to loved ones.

We have always needed the USPS to keep us connected. And America's postal workers have always, always come through for us.

My own grandfather -- a World War II veteran -- served as a postal carrier for years.

I grew up with his stories of delivering the mail regardless of conditions -- in snow and rain and heat and gloom of night. I was always aware just how remarkable it really is that you can send a letter from Alaska to Alabama and know that it will reach its destination.

I am still so proud of my grandfather's service to this critical institution.

The USPS is more vital than ever in 2020. This year, amidst a historic public health crisis, we rely on the USPS for another essential function: to process our mail-in ballots -- because voting by mail is the safe, secure way to vote during a pandemic.

But Donald Trump and his allies are actively undermining the USPS in order to make it harder for Americans to vote. That's because they are afraid.

They're afraid that when more of us are able to cast a ballot, Donald Trump will lose. And they're right.

Our lives are on the line in this election. John, we will not let Trump steal another election from the people. To do that, we must defend the USPS so every voter can know that if they choose to vote safely by mail, their ballot will be counted.

House Democrats just passed a bill to protect and fund the USPS, ensuring that it will be able to process the ballots of folks voting from home. This bill must pass -- we must protect the Postal Service from Donald Trump.

It's time for us to come through for the USPS. Please, add your name to our petition calling on Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans to -- for once -- stand up to Donald Trump and do what is right by passing this legislation immediately. Thank you,
