** John,
------------------------------------------------------------

Today is Juneteenth, a day that marks the end of slavery in the United States.

For Black Americans, Juneteenth represents a day to celebrate their resilience and hard fought freedoms in the face of cruelty. It also serves as a reminder of the work we all still have to do in order to realize racial justice and equality for all.

And today, as fascist white supremacists are in the White House, that work is more important than ever.

As the Trump administration uses racism and bigotry as an excuse to attack voting rights, erode our civil liberties, erase our history, and terrorize communities, we cannot let it divide us. They want us to believe that freedom is scarce — that one community's liberation comes at the expense of another's. I reject that completely.

My liberation is tied to yours.

As the daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, I know that our struggles are interconnected. The fight for racial justice, immigrant justice, economic justice, and democracy itself are not separate battles. They are one and the same.

Progress is not inevitable. It has always required the people to organize, to resist, and to demand justice from systems that were never designed to serve everyone equally.

And every day, I see people choosing courage over cynicism. I see organizers building power. I see communities caring for one another. I see people refusing to give up on the promise of a more just world.

That is why I remain hopeful. Because we aren’t just commemorating freedom, but fighting to make it real for everyone.

In Solidarity,

Delia
