Election Night 2016 was full of ugly surprises.

But one of the most unexpected results was Minnesota -- Donald Trump only lost the state by about 1.5 percent. Ever since then, he's been fixated on adding Minnesota to his column, holding rally after rally and dumping money into the state.

My friend Democratic Senator Tina Smith is up for re-election in Minnesota this year. And she's counting on this grassroots team to help her fight back against the GOP money flooding the state.

Since joining the Senate, Tina Smith has fought to protect Medicaid and women's health care, and to lower the cost of prescription drugs.

Tina also knows what it's like to be a working parent, and how crucial child care is to making it all work. We have that in common. The way Tina and I see it, child care is basic infrastructure, like roads and bridges and communications technology, that our whole economy relies on.

So a few months ago, Tina and I put our heads together on a plan to address the child care crisis that our country is going through during this pandemic.

We have proposed a $50 billion child care bailout for the next coronavirus relief package -- because we can't let child care providers be forced out of business, and we have to make sure parents can find safe, affordable, and high-quality child care.

So take it from me: Tina Smith is exactly the type of fighter we need to stay in the U.S. Senate -- a fighter who knows how working families are struggling, and knows how to make things better.

But to win this November, she needs grassroots supporters like you to get in this fight.
