Senator Kamala Harris is set to make history as the country’s first woman vice president -- and has already made history as the first Black and the first Asian woman vice presidential nominee.

Senator Harris has paved the way for women throughout her years in public service -- she was the first woman district attorney of San Francisco, first woman attorney general of California, and only the second Black woman to be elected to the U.S. Senate.

Unsurprisingly, her nomination and ambitious record have already drawn attacks from Donald Trump and his supporters. In reacting to her VP nomination, Trump referred to Senator Harris as “even nastier than Pocahontas,” his nickname for Senator Elizabeth Warren, and accused her of being “disrespectful” to Brett Kavanaugh for questioning him during his Senate confirmation hearing.

But Senator Harris has responded the way she has throughout her entire career -- by catalyzing systemic change to improve the lives of Americans across the country, this time as the Democratic vice presidential nominee. As Joe Biden said, “Is anyone surprised that Donald Trump has a problem with a strong woman, or strong women across the board?”
