I can't believe it's already been a year since this awful U.S. Supreme Court decision, John.
On June 18, 2025, the Court made a reckless decision in U.S. v Skrmetti – a decision that has allowed 27 states to maintain discriminatory bans on access to life-saving healthcare for trans youth and their families. These bans force thousands of young trans people and their families to travel long distances for medically necessary care. Like many despicable anti-LGBTQ+ policies throughout the past and present, I know someday these attacks on trans youth healthcare access will be a cruel footnote in history. But until then, our Trans Youth Emergency Project will be here to help young trans people access the care they need and deserve.
Our Trans Youth Emergency Project (TYEP) is the only national project of its kind that specifically helps families of trans youth navigate the healthcare bans. Every dollar makes a world of difference for these families, and helps us scale up our support in the wake of local, state, and federal attacks. Please donate $50, $25, or anything you can give today to fuel this life-saving work. ([link removed])
We're so honored to lead TYEP, which offers personal 1-on-1 logistical support and travel grants of $500, renewable every 3 months, so families can identify out-of-state healthcare options and pay for the cost of getting there. In the last year, we've scaled up TYEP to support any families experiencing care disruptions due to political attacks, increased support for frontline youth-serving partner organizations, and we'll continue to find creative ways to support all trans youth and their families through this difficult time.
As of this spring, we have distributed $2 million dollars to support healthcare access for the families of trans youth – $1 million directly to families through our renewable $500 grants, and over $1 million to frontline partners working directly with trans youth. That's only possible because of people like you.
TYEP has become a lifeline for trans youth across the country since the Skrmetti decision last year, and this work has only been possible because of generous donors showing up for trans youth time and time again. Please donate $50, $20, or whatever you can give today to help families of trans youth access the care they need to thrive. ([link removed])
The LGBTQ+ community has faced a lot of brutal moments in the last year – but together, we keep fighting, keep innovating, keep working toward a future where we can live fully and authentically. No Court ruling can change what we know in our bones: our identities, our families, and our lives are strong, worthy, and not up for debate. Our fight for visibility and equality is helping these young people grow up in a kinder, more accepting world. Don't ever forget that your support is building this world, bit by bit.
Thanks for all that you do,
Allison Scott
