Protests in the city centre

*"A Message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:"*

Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council

Saturday saw a number of protests in the city centre and I would like to thank Nottingham people for their co-operation and patience.

The protests remained peaceful and Id like to thank Nottinghamshire Police for their work in ensuring this and also give thanks to council staff, particularly in community protection and street cleansing, who have helped provide community reassurance and clean up.

Nottingham City Council remains committed to tackling inequality and bringing communities together, we are proud of our diversity and accepting of differences of opinion. We know that we are stronger when we remember we have more in common than anything that divides us.

*Stop the spread of Covid-19 in Nottingham*

Nottingham Skyline

It is vital that everyone in Nottingham plays their part to stop the spread of the virus locally by continuing to follow the latest rules and guidance, which includes:

* Wash your hands
* Wear a face covering
* Keep your distance
* Get a free test if you have symptoms (call 119)

Wearing a face covering is particularly important, as many people who contract the virus do not know they have it. COVID spreads by droplets from coughs, sneezes and speaking and if you dont know you have the virus you can easily unknowingly pass it on. By wearing a face covering, you are protecting others and by other people wearing one they are protecting you. Find out more about Face coverings: when to wear one and how to make your own [ [link removed] ]

No matter how mild your symptoms, if you experience any:

* Loss/change in sense of smell or taste
* High temperature
* New, continuous cough

you MUST get a free test. Book yours now: Testing and tracing [ [link removed] ]

*Travel Centre re-opening *

Robin Hood card image

With schools set to return next week and with more and more people returning to their places of work, we have been working hard to reopen the Travel Centre in Victoria Bus Station to support commuters and pupils. The next couple of months are usually the busiest time of year for our travel centre staff and I am really pleased that we are able to reinstate this aspect of our customer service. Weve put stringent measures in place for the safety of our staff and customers, and signage will advise customers how to stay safe. Measures include:

* Up to two customers will be allowed in the travel centre at any one time
* A one-way system has been put in place
* Entrance moved to the bottom of the bus station
* Waiting areas will be deep cleaned and sanitiser provided
* Frequently touched surfaces will also be disinfected regularly

Although the centre will be open for those who need it, Id like to remind customers most of our services are now available online. Find out more Transport services continue to reopen across the city [ [link removed] ]
